Lanphere Dunes NWR

On Friday, August 12th, the team sat on the beach and ate sandwiches. Then we all took a nap in the warm sun. The end.

Haha, actually that was our lunch break. Today we toured Lanphere Dunes with Laurel Goldsmith (currently a botanist with the state transportation agency; previously botanist at Lanphere for 9 years). Lanphere is the location of the first dune restoration project on the west coast. Efforts to restore the dunes began in the early 1980's; much of the focus was on removal of invasive species such as Ammophila arenari.
During our time at Lanphere, we were able to see several different ecosystems: dune forest, salt marsh, restored and non-restored coastal dunes.
